Our Honorary Chairman- General Henry H. Shelton


General Henry Hugh Shelton, an Edgecombe County native, is honorary Chairman of the Edgecombe County Veterans' Military Museum. General Shelton served in the United States Army. He completed two tours of duty in Vietnam as a part of the 5th Special Forces Group and with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, he was in command of the XVIII Airborne Corps, and he led the Joint Task Force that was responsible for Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti. After being promoted to the rank of General in 1996 Shelton gained the position of Commander in Chief of the United States Special Operation Command. General Shelton served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1997 to 2001.

General Shelton said, "The Edgecombe County Veterans' Museum was established to recognize and preserve the history of the tremendous sacrifices and contributions Edgecombe County Veterans have made to our nation's security.  It will serve as an enduring memorial to those who have helped defend America's freedom.  I am proud to serve as the honorary chairman of the museum seeking through this very worthwhile endeavor to preserve our heritage and honor those who served our nation."
